HIGH COURT NEGOMBO

The High Court of Negombo has a proud history of serving the judicial needs of the community. From its foundation to its modern expansion, the institution has continually adapted to uphold the administration of justice in the region.

Establishment & Commencement (1974)

The High Court of Negombo was officially established on January 1, 1974, and commenced its operations shortly after on January 24, 1974, dedicating itself to the higher criminal jurisdiction of the region.

Relocation to New Court Complex (2013)

To meet the growing administrative demands and provide better facilities, High Court Negombo was shifted to a new Court complex situated opposite the Kotuwa ground. This new complex has been in operation since 2013.

Old High Court Land Development

Following the relocation of the main court activities to the new complex, the historic original land was repurposed. A dedicated Court circuit bungalow has since been built at the old High Court land to serve the accommodation and administrative needs of visiting judicial officers.
