The committee approved by the Cabinet to seek the views of the National Labor Advisory Council (NLAC) for the revision of labor laws.
A special meeting organized to get the views of the representatives of the National Labor Advisory Council (NLAC) to the committee approved by the cabinet regarding the revision of labor laws, was held last (27) at the Ministry of Labor Auditorium located in Narahenpita – Mission Piyasa Building. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Committee - Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Mr. SM Piyatissa.
The committee pointed out that 49 laws regarding the rights of working people are currently in effect in Sri Lanka and among them some of the laws are not currently active.
Through the amendment process of these Acts, 12 Acts which are currently in active status have been amended and 4 new Acts namely Labor Standards, Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety and Health, and Trade Unions are intended to be adopted. There, the representatives of both the employers and employees representing the National Labor Advisory Council (NLAC) presented their views and suggestions regarding how these Acts should be amended. On this occasion, the representatives representing the committee approved by the Cabinet regarding the amendment of the labor laws and the representatives of both the employers and employees represented by the National Labor Advisory Council were present.
