Compensation for Employees Who Lost Jobs at Thulhiriya and Pugoda Textile Mills
A programme to provide compensation to employees who lost their jobs at the Thulhiriya and Pugoda textile mills — which were under the National Textile Corporation and closed in 1978 due to political reasons — was held today (30) at the Narahenpita Labour Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Labour Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe.
Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers has been granted to provide this compensation as a final settlement.
Thirty beneficiaries participated in today’s symbolic event, while the remaining eligible former employees can collect their compensation payments through their respective district labour offices.
The event was also attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Labour S.M. Piyatissa, Commissioner General of Labour Nadeeka Wataliyadda, and other officials of the Ministry of Labour and Department of Labour.
