History of the District Court Mount Lavinia

The History of the District Court of Mount Lavinia

The District Court of Mount Lavinia stands as one of the busiest and most vital civil courts operating in the suburbs of Colombo. According to historical records and archival documents, the court was originally established as far back as 1974 to serve the growing legal needs of the region, subsequently shifting to its modern court complex in 2008 to accommodate expanded civil proceedings.

The court operates with two active courtrooms presided over by two dedicated judges. Both courts handle a comprehensive range of civil disputes within regular district court jurisdiction—including testamentary matters, divorce, land disputes, child custody, specific performance, and complex contractual agreements.
